Many new trained volunteers and new articles at the end of the year in Macedonia
The three-week edition competition organized once a year in this format is intended for high-school students. The competition's topic was 'Music' and it started on 21 October 2024 and ended on 10 November 2024. This contest was intended to help improve existing and create new articles on the topic of "music". 24 high school students participated in the competition and a total of 92 articles were published.
Conferences for teachers/ professors are one of the project activities of Wikimedia MKD through which the teaching staff receives training in using Wikipedia and guidance and instructions how to implement it in the educational process. For the first time, such a conference is being held for professors from the highest level of education. Thus, on 14 November 2024, Wikimedia MKD held a conference for professors at "Goce Delchev" University in Shtip. Besides the professors, the conference was attended by interested students who wanted to learn more about Wikipedia. A total of 22 professors and students from the UGD from Shtip participated. The conference itself started at 10:00 a.m. at the premises of Campus 2 at UGD Shtip. The conference was split in two parts. In the first part Snezhana Shtrkovska, executive director of Wikimedia MKD gave speach and in the second part Tony Ristovski, lectured on Wikidata.
In December edit-a-thon 'Mountains' was held. The event included a workshop with a lecture, followed by an editing marathon on the topic of "Mountains". It was attended by members of the Wiki Club Skopje, consisting of students from the "Josip Broz - Tito" high school under the guidance by the coordinator Irena Trajkovska Sterjovska. With their enthusiasm and hard work, seven students made a significant contribution to enriching the content of Wikipedia in Macedonian.
In cooperation with the Slovenian Center in Skopje, Wikimedia MKD realized another successful and significant event that enriched the content of Wikipedia in the Macedonian language. On 18 December 2024, at the premises of the “Dimitar Miladinov” Primary School in Skopje, a thematic workshop entitled “Meet Slovenia” was held. The event was organized in cooperation with the Slovenian Center in Skopje. The workshop was attended by 15 students from the “Dimitar Miladinov” Primary School in Skopje, who had the opportunity not only to learn more about Slovenia, but also to actively contribute to enriching the content of Wikipedia.
Therefore, Wikimedia MKD succeeded in achieving its annual goals regarding this part of its programme. The large number of new volunteers and editors, along with the large number of articles, were seen as an excellent reward for the tireless efforts of Wikimedia activists. Together, all members of Wikimedia MKD shall strive for bigger results and bigger goals.
