Educational Outreach with Youth Centers in Albania

Summary: In the course of June and July 2025, the Wikimedians of Albanian Language User Group (WoALUG) has continued its outreach and awareness work within the education program, collaborating with various Youth Centers in Albania, introducing young people to free knowledge and the value of contributing to Wikipedia in the Albanian language.

The goal of these activities is to enhance youth’s digital literacy skills, critical thinking, research abilities, and community engagement. By involving young people in contributing to open knowledge, our User Group aims to recruit and retain contributors who can actively contribute to enriching the Albanian-language content on Wikipedia, Wikimedia Commons, Wikidata and much more.

In this perspective, we connected with several Youth Centers in Divjakë, Lushnjë, Berat and Shkodër in Albania. Participants explored how Wikipedia function: creating accounts, understanding the editing basics, searching and verifying the information.

Every session encouraged youth to connect local culture and history with global visibility, emphasized practical editing skills, showing how even small contributions can strengthen the Albanian-language Wikipedia.

These moments of learning and collaboration help us to grow our Wikipedian community, build new partnerships, and improve the quality of articles on Wikipedia about local areas.
