Partnerships for the classroom

To encourage and amplify the usage of Wikipedia in the classroom, WMB partnered with two university groups in Brazil: the Department of Human Sciences of the State University of Bahia (campus Jacobina), and the Department of Ecology of the University of São Paulo. In two different workshops, we showed professors and students the potential of Wikipedia for scientific dissemination and how to edit on the platform.

Edit-a-thon Women's Month

To celebrate International Women's Day on March 8th, the Observatory of Latin American Women Intellectuals and Wikimedia Brazil organized an edit-a-thon to improve and create entries on Latin American intellectual women.

Edit-a-thon of the History, Science, Health Magazine - Manguinhos

Participants of the edit-a-thon at Fiocruz.

Along with the Library of History of Science and Health, the Communications Office of the Casa de Oswaldo Cruz (COC/Fiocruz), and the History, Science, Health Magazine Manguinhos, Wikimedia Brazil helped to organize an edit-a-thon. The participants used the material of the magazine to improve Wikipedia articles on science, health and women.

Edit-a-thon Black Presence in the Archive

Participants editing Wikipedia at Bienal.

To mark the 133th anniversary of the Public Archives of the State of São Paulo (APESP), Wikimedia Brazil held an edit-a-thon about the black presence in the Archive in partnership with APESP and Bienal SP. The theme relates to the exhibition “Black Presence in the Archive”, that highlights documents from the APESP collection, which portray the trajectory of struggle and resistance of the black population in search of visibility and recognition.

Partnership with CEM

As highlighted in the last newsletter, Wikimedia Brazil has a new partnership with CEM, the Center for Metropolitan Studies at the University of São Paulo. To kickstart this relationship, the two teams met for a workshop so that CEM members could learn how to edit on Wikipedia.

Lastly, the on-line workshop Xojobil and the Chiapas focused on Wikimedia Commons. The Center for Memory and Historical Research, from UNIFESP, has a large collection of photographs from the collection of Alejandro Buenrostro and Arellano (XOJOBIL), which they will upload on Commons with the help of WMB.
