Several educational workshops to promote science on Wiki were held in Brazil in the month of May
36th Wikimedia & Education Workshop
The 36th Wikimedia & Education Workshop took place on May 22nd and featured presentations by Edney Cielici Dias and Priscilla Bensabath.
Edney spoke about the experience of the Center for Metropolitan Studies (CEM) on Wiki. Since March of this year, CEM and Wikimedia Brazil have formed a partnership so that the center can improve content on social and political sciences on Wikipedia. In less than three months of project, 60 articles have already been edited and/or created - reaching almost 15k views - and more than 900 references have been included.
And Priscilla talked about the Wiki Loves Maranhão campaign, highlighting the current gap in information about the state on Wiki, and the activities that are being organized this year by WMB to revert this situation.
Knowledge interfaces: Jacobina on Wiki

For three days, around 200 students and their teachers from the Jacobina campus of the State University of Bahia participated in the digital extension academic event “Interfaces of knowledge: Jacobina on Wiki” to improve content about the region on various Wiki platforms.
They worked with a list of over 120 Wikipedia entries, went on a photo walk around the city to feed Wikimedia Commons, and digitized documents from the Jacobina Municipal Public Archive to upload to Wikisource.
Edit-a-thon Science on Wiki

The Edit-a-thon Sciences on Wiki was an activity promoted by the Carlos Chagas Filho Chair of Frontiers in Biology and Medicine, at Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, with support from Wikimedia Brasil, the Brazilian College of Advanced Studies (CBAE), the Postgraduate Program in Morphological Sciences and the Professional Postgraduate Program in Bioimaging and Biostructure Technologies.
The goal of this event was to train and encourage teachers, researchers, students and enthusiasts from different scientific fields to improve entries on the Portuguese Wikipedia in order to increase the quality and quantity of information about science on the platform.
Edit-a-thon Writing History on Wiki
In May, the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul held another Open Doors meeting, an initiative that aims to promote the first contact between people interested in enrolling at the University and the research, teaching and extension activities carried out by the academic community.
In this context, the Laboratory for Studies on the Political Uses of the Past (Luppa) held the Edit-a-thon Writing History on Wikipedia, to bring together candidates interested in the history course and the production and dissemination of historical knowledge in the digital environment.
NEMkipedia Edit-a-thon
The NEMkipédia Edit-a-thon was a partnership between WMB and NEM with Science, from the SESI Barra Mansa unit. This online activity sought to promote digital literacy, encouraging students to take a more active role in the digital environment through training to improve Wikipedia entries. The idea is to hold more editathons like this in the coming months.
EDUCOM Workshop

In partnership with Professor Claudemir Edson Viana, from the School of Communications and Arts at USP, two meetings were held with undergraduate students of the Educommunication discipline.
In the first class, a presentation was made about Wikipedia and how topics related to the fields of education and communication are related to the platform. In a second session, a practical workshop was held, in which students edited Wikipedia, especially the entry on Educommunication.
Workshop Project LER UNIFESP

The LER (Literacy, Popular Education and Social Networks) outreach project is organized by the Federal University of São Paulo in partnership with UNAS (Union of Centers, Residents' Associations of Heliópolis and Region) and the Paulo Freire Popular Institute. Its goal is to train popular educators who will work on a digital literacy course with people in situations of social vulnerability.
The focus of this workshop with the LER Project was Wikimedia Commons. The organizers are interested in the tool for two reasons: the first is to record the project's activities. The second is to expand audiovisual records about communities that are underrepresented on the internet, such as the favelas of Vila Prudente and Heliópolis.
Community Session at USP
In addition to the EDUCOM Workshop, ECA-USP also hosted a community session. Undergraduate students in the Radio Projects discipline were introduced to Wiki platforms, especially Wikipedia, Wikimedia Commons and Wikiversity. It was highlighted how these tools can be useful to them as students and journalists.
Workshop Cycle More Indigenous People in History Theory on Wiki
There is a lack of representation of indigenous people on Wiki platforms, reflecting a historical inequality in the production of knowledge. To reduce this gap, the Mais Teoria da História na Wiki project will hold a series of seven workshops between June 4 and 17.
Coordinated by USP professor Guilherme Bianchi, these online meetings will focus on Wikipedia, Wikimedia Commons and Wikidata, and will cater to all levels of editing experience.
