190 students from Oteitza Lizeoa create 48 articles on the history of the Basque Country for Txikipedia in one day

The project's objective is to present the history and imagery of the Basque Country through 100 objects available in museums. The project content will be available in different formats: a podcast, literary texts created by writers, a gallery of images of each object on Wikimedia Commons, a children's comic about them, Wikipedia articles, and adapted versions at Txikipedia. The latter is what we have worked on with the school.
First thing in the morning, they received a brief presentation to understand the project. Then, divided into their classrooms, they worked on key concepts with assignments on sources, reliability, and netiquette. Finally, organized into groups of four, each team received an object from the project and had to describe it, place it in its historical context, and explain why it deserves to be part of this project about the history of the Basque Country. To accomplish this, they read Wikipedia articles, museum websites, and other external sources, and concluded the activity by publishing their work on Txikipedia.
The result was significant: 48 new articles improved the coverage of Basque history on Txikipedia (almost half of the objects in the project now have their own entry). It was a great challenge, but the students and teachers responded very well.
The collaboration between Euskal Wikilarien Kultura Elkartea (EWKE) and the Ikastolas, which began years ago with annual challenges in first years of mandatory secondary education, is now taking another step forward by also working with Eleventh grade.
