2nd International Congress Wikimedia, Education, and Digital Cultures (WECUDI)
The event took place at the Tlatelolco Cultural Center (CCUT) of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM).
Participants came from 15 countries (Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Ecuador, El Salvador, Spain, the United States, France, Paraguay, Peru, Puerto Rico, and Uruguay) and 11 Mexican states (Aguascalientes, Mexico City, State of Mexico, Guadalajara, Monterrey, Puebla, Querétaro, San Luis Potosí, Sonora, Tlaxcala, and Veracruz).
During the three days of the congress, Wikimedia professionals, educators, activists, teachers, and researchers gathered to reflect, share projects, debate ideas, and envision paths for building collaborative work based on freedom, critical thinking, and the diverse perspectives and feelings both within and beyond the Wikimedia movement.
We inaugurated this edition with remarks from Luisina Ferrante (Project Director of Wikimedia Argentina), who passed the torch to Mexico after having hosted the First WECUDI International Congress at the University of La Plata in 2023. Following her remarks, Carmen Alcázar (Executive Director of Wikimedia Mexico) welcomed all participants and officially opened the event, emphasizing that WECUDI extends beyond education and highlighting the importance of these events within the community.
The WECUDI program featured over 50 activities, including conferences, workshops, cultural events, panel discussions, and poster presentations.
