Open Science on Wiki campaign

The Open Science on Wiki campaign is still happening. In October was held the fourth and last encounter of the Wikidata Training for Libraries and Research Centers. The focus this time was on batch loading items into Wikidata using the QuickStatements 3.0 tool.

For those interested in participating in the campaign, articles related to the topic of open science were selected for editing in the Portuguese Wikipedia. For your edits to count towards the campaign, you must register on the activity's Dashboard, where the entries are also listed.

Participation in Coda.Br

Members of Wikimedia Brazil's professional team and community attended the Brazilian Conference on Data Journalism and Digital Methods (Coda.Br). Alexander Hilsenbeck, WMB's education manager, moderated the panel "Free Knowledge and Open Science: Paths to a Resilient and Developed Society," which was attended by over 100 participants. The panel also featured Débora Peres Menezes, Olavo Amaral, and Sarita Albagli.

Scripts Edit-a-thon

To facilitate editing Wikipedia pages, Wikimedia Brazil held a scripts edit-a-thon for Wikimedians in residence around the country. The Hotcat, Luizdl, and reFill scripts were showcased. These three tools work with categories, references, and adjustments to the source code of articles.

Activities with UNIFESP Guarulhos

Workshop Contemporary Brazil History at UNIFESP Guarulhos.

In October, two activities were held in partnership with UNIFESP Guarulhos. One was with the class of History IV (which focuses on Contemporary Brazil), taught by Professor Clifford Andrew Welch, in which students learned how to edit Wikipedia for the final activity of the class.

The other was part of the Interdisciplinary Center for Research on Language and Literature Teaching (NIPELL). The group is working with Wikipedia entries on Brazilian women writers of children's literature.

History Magazines on Wiki

Participants of the Structuring data for the visibility of Black people workshop.

The History Magazines on Wiki Edit-a-thon is an ongoing activity developed by the História Editorial team and its Editor Aprendiz program, aiming to insert data from Brazilian history magazines into Wikidata. Every Friday since September, a group has met to work with the platform.

In addition to this activity, Geferson Santana, the team coordinator, taught a workshop on the visibility of Black people on Wikidata and the importance of racializing white people as well.

NEMkipedia project wins award

NEMkipédia, part of NEM with Science, is a partnership between Sesi Barra Mansa and Wikimedia Brasil, and it aims to promote digital literacy by encouraging students to take a more active role in the digital environment through training to improve Wikipedia articles.

The professor responsible for NEMkipédia, Joso de Souza Junior, presented the project at the Southern Fluminense Science, Technology, Traditional Knowledge, and Innovation Fair – MostraSulF, and at the UniVassouras Science Exhibition, where it won 3rd place in the Engineering and Technology category.
