Since 2019, the program has engaged educators, students, and volunteers in making reliable educational content freely accessible online. In the 2025–2026 edition, the contest ran from 22 December 2025 to 31 January 2026. During the contest, 28 participants created and improved 230 articles in Ukrainian Wikipedia, while an additional “Wikivoyage for School” track added 28 travel-related educational articles. Participants learned how to research sources, improve encyclopedic writing, collaborate with others, and contribute open knowledge resources useful for teachers and learners. A particularly meaningful moment was an offline edit-a-thon in Kyiv, where contributors met despite freezing weather, power outages, and wartime disruptions. The event demonstrated how Wikimedia education programs can build resilience, community, and continued access to knowledge even in crisis conditions. The contest strongly advocates for open education in Ukraine by expanding free, curriculum-based learning materials and showing how Wikimedia projects can support schools, teachers, and lifelong learners.
