As part of the Egypt Wikimedians User Group’s celebrations of the 25th Wikipedia Day, the group’s “Wikipedian Light of Knowledge (WLK)” initiative organized an edit-a-thon to translate articles about historic and modern palaces in Madrid from Spanish into Arabic. Read more…

Between October 14th and 16th, 2025, at the Institute of Letters of UERJ, in Rio de Janeiro, the Meeting of the Latin American Network of Feminist Artificial Intelligence: Technofeminist Confluences for Possible Futures brought together researchers, professors, and leaders from different countries in Latin America and the Caribbean to discuss the relationships between technology, intersectionality, and society. Coordinated by Professor Alejandra Josiowicz and organized by the Digital Observatory of Latin American Women, the event consolidated five years of network articulation (2021–2025), marked by the critical mapping of dominant narratives about AI and the proposition of interdisciplinary and inclusive approaches. An inclusive climate education workshop at Garden City Special School introduced students with disabilities and teachers to climate change concepts using adapted Open Educational Resources and Wikimedia content. In partnership with the Embassy of Finland, the Serbian-Finnish Society “Seura” and Serbian and Montenegrin students studying in Finland, Wikimedia Serbia prepars an edit-a-thon about education in Finland. The Central Bicol State University of Agriculture (CBSUA) launched the Literary Festival 2026: Room to Dream featuring 11 literary events including article writing and translation on Wikipedia, and adding quotations on Wikiquote. Read more…

Wikimedia Indonesia once again organized WikiCendekia 2026 as a capacity-building space for Wikimedia project administrators in Indonesia. The program combined online learning through an LMS with a two-day in-person session in Surabaya, attended by 30 administrators from various projects, including Wikipedia and local-language projects. The WikiPatrimoine Senghor campaign, initiated by the Club WikiSenghor de l’Université Senghor d’Alexandrie, was launched on December 10, 2025 and January 25, 2026. It aims to reinforce the documentation and visibility of heritage cultures of Africans and African descendants on Wikipedia, in particulier in langue française. Organisée dans le contexte du 25ᵉ anniversaire de Wikipedia et de la Journée mondiale de la culture africaine et afrodescendante, la campagne à combiné formation et creation et amélioration d'articles. In total, 24 articles portant sur des patrimoines matériels et immatériels ont été créés ou enrichis. The initiative concludes with a public exposition of restitution, including QR codes renvoyant to articles produced. This activity contributes to the development of numerical competencies of participants and to a better representation of African patrimonies online. Read more…


On 14 February 2026, Uzbek Wikimedians organized an educational celebration event at Tashkent State University of Economics to mark Wikipedia’s 25th anniversary. The event was held in collaboration with the Wikimedians of Turkic Languages User Group, Central Asia Youth Community, young Uzbek Wikimedians, and the TSUE Wiki Club. The third and final month of the Auckland Museum Wikipedia summer studentship has come to an end. Over the past 10 weeks 6 students have contributed to the world of Wikimedia through the Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland Local Histories project. They have connected with Auckland Museum staff and guest speaker Wikimedians from Aotearoa and across the globe and learnt how others participate in the movement. Read more…

Introducing Wikimedia into the academic curriculum for higher education students across universities in Telangana marks the first statewide initiative in India to formally integrate Wikimedia into higher education. Wiki Club Minalabac joined Freedom to Read 2026: One World, Many Languages, a global campaign by Pratham Books’ StoryWeaver celebrating multilingual literacy and International Mother Language Day. Led locally by MaryGrace Valencia of the Alliance for Open Education Collaboration Inc., the initiative featured reading sessions in Central Bikol using children’s books translated during the 2025 Hablon-Usipon Workshop. Supported by educators from Minalabac, the activity highlighted the importance of mother tongue-based literacy and culturally relevant learning materials. Through partnerships with the PhilWiki Community and other organizations, the group continues to promote open knowledge and inclusive education, empowering young learners to read and thrive in their own language. February 2026 was an especially dynamic and productive month within the Education Program of Wikimedia MKD. A series of training workshops were organized in cooperation with several primary and secondary schools, engaging dozens of students in learning how to edit and create content on Wikipedia in the Macedonian language. Through these workshops, students were introduced to the principles of free knowledge, neutral point of view, reliable sourcing, and encyclopedic writing, while gaining hands-on experience in publishing articles online. On February 14, 2026, the Uzbek Wikimedian community celebrated Wikipedia’s 25th anniversary with a special offline event at Tashkent State University of Economics. Organized in collaboration with the TSUE Wiki Club, the event brought together over 50 participants, including university students, young researchers, and active Wikimedians. The program included a 1.5-hour interactive workshop, where attendees learned about Wikipedia, its editing culture, and ongoing local and CEE Youth Group projects, while gaining practical skills to contribute effectively. The event also offered participants an opportunity to connect, share experiences, and engage with the broader Wikimedia community. By involving students and young researchers in hands-on activities, the initiative promoted open knowledge and collaborative learning, fostering a culture of open education in the region and inspiring the next generation of contributors.
