A collaborative network of university educators and researchers from Spain has published a collective book documenting educational experiences with Wikimedia in higher education. The publication showcases how professors from different Spanish universities are integrating Wikimedia projects into teaching, open education, and collaborative knowledge creation. Read more… In May, the Wikimedia Brasil team kept the momentum from the previous month and helped to organize multiple educational activities in universities throughout the country. Beyond that, WMB brought the use of free licenses up for debate at one of the major events on privacy, digital security, and internet freedom in Brazil. Read more… The first Ukrainian academic collection on Wikipedia and Wikimedia research has been published by Wikimedia Ukraine. It includes 28 papers on Wikipedia and wiki projects as subjects of research, education, cultural heritage, information quality, technical innovation, and open knowledge. Read more… The Wiki Digital Youth Project engaged students and teachers in a collaborative learning program under the EduWiki, where students participated in Quest 1 to build Wiki Club identities through logo design and pitching, and in Quest 2 to develop digital and open knowledge skills by identifying Wikipedia content gaps and contributing images to Wikimedia Commons through photography, licensing, and structured uploads, thereby strengthening creativity, teamwork, and digital literacy while promoting open education in Rwanda. Read more… In the previous period, Wikimedia MKD continued to strengthen its education program through a variety of activities focused on free knowledge, student engagement, and collaboration with educational institutions across the country. Through workshops, teacher conference, and editing contest, students and educators had the opportunity to develop digital literacy skills, explore new topics, and actively contribute to the Macedonian-language Wikipedia. These activities encouraged collaborative learning, critical thinking, and creativity, while also enriching Wikipedia with valuable new content related to botany, science, and education. Read more…

Read more… In early 2026, three youth clubs were established across Tanzania as part of the Wiki Digital Youth Club pilot, a Sub-Saharan Africa initiative spanning Nigeria, Rwanda, and Tanzania. With 30 young participants across the clubs, Tanzanian students have been completing creative digital challenges called "quests," earning points, building Wikipedia skills, and discovering the free-knowledge movement all through friendly competition. Read more… The Wikimedia Digi-Youth Club pilot in Nigeria engaged young people across four communities through mentorship and hands-on “quest”-based activities. Participants developed skills in Wikipedia editing, digital literacy, and multimedia contributions while fostering creativity, teamwork, and leadership. The ongoing programme continues to empower youth to bridge knowledge gaps and contribute meaningfully to the Wikimedia ecosystem. They assisted with reviewing student assignments, helping pupils select article topics, and supporting the organization of educational programs during one of the busiest periods of the academic year.
