Education Programme for educators, Sharjah Session 4
During the holy month of Ramadan, educators from Sharjah came together for a focused learning mission—to contribute to open knowledge and strengthen their digital literacy skills through Wikimedia projects.
The training session introduced participants to the core practices of contributing to Wikipedia, including editing, linking, and translating articles. The session emphasized hands-on participation and collaborative learning, especially for first-time editors.
Objectives
[edit]- To introduce educators to Wikimedia projects and open-knowledge contribution
- To develop practical Wikipedia editing and translation skills
- To encourage multilingual knowledge sharing
Session Highlights
[edit]Hands-on training on:
- Wikipedia editing basics
- Article linking and formatting
- Translation using the Content Translation Tool
- Articles worked on were mainly related to Islam and United Arab Emirates
- Participants translated multiple articles into:Malayalam, Hindi and Urdu.
Challenges & Support
[edit]Some new editors experienced Account login issues and difficulties using the translation tool across different languages. These challenges were addressed through live demonstrations, individual guidance, and an extended doubt-clearing session after Iftar.
Community Iftar & Discussion
[edit]After the training session, participants and community members joined for a community Iftar, strengthening social bonds and fostering collaboration. This was followed by an additional 30-minute open support session, where participants clarified doubts and received personalized assistance.
