A sample of the award that was distributed at the 2025 awards

Egypt Wikimedians User Group's Awards of the Year are annual awards distributed by user group with the aim of honoring outstanding individuals in several fields. The awards began in 2025, and the awards are given during the annual conference.

all of these awards are based on specific criteria and statistics to honor the best during the year, with the exception of "Person of the Year award" Which also requires members to vote through a formal vote. The selection of winners is overseen by an awards supervisor who is chosen each year.

Those who receive the awards must be a Wikimedia user and have been active within the user group. The winner is awarded a shield trophy and a certificate of appreciation.

Awards and criteria

Rising star of the year

The award is given only to new users who registered during the year (from 1 Jan). And showed remarkable, good activity and significant improvement in their skills.

Award criteria (in order)

1. The most articles or pages created.
2. The highest quality of contributions, demonstrating the extent of improvement in his editing skills and familiarity with the basics and rules.

Winner's conditions

1. The registration date must be within the current year.
2. The user must be new user (not a returning user or fresh start).
3. Only contributions to the main namespace are counted.

Photographer of the Year

This award is given to the most outstanding user who participated in photography activities throughout the year, whether through photography competitions, photo tours, campaigns, or various other events.

Award criteria (in order)

1. Achieved top positions in photography competitions in Wikimedia.
2. Most user upload files on commons.
3. User whose photos were used most frequently in Wikimedia projects.

Winner's conditions

1. Photos must be useful, original, meet Commons standards, and have a good description.
2. For all users, it is not necessary to be a professional photographer.

Editor of the year

The award is given to the most active and contributing editors to Wikimedia projects (specially Wikipedia) during the year.

Award criteria (in order)

1. The most articles or pages created.
2. Largest of the number of articles created.
3. Largest articles in size.
4. Most contributions according to the contributions counter.
5. The highest quality of contributions.

Winner's conditions

1. Contributions are not made by bots, automated tools, or AI-generated.
2. Articles must be in the best possible condition; Articles with editorial problems or that violate guidelines will not be accepted.
3. The most contributions; only contributions to the main namespace are counted.

Person of the year

It is awarded to the best and most active user of the year, who has contributed significantly to the user group, provided substantial support for its activities, or offered exceptional services to the user group.

Selection process
The supervisor makes a list of users who meet the award criteria, then conducts a vote and inviting all registered user group members to choose one person to be honored with the award.

Winner's conditions

1. The user must have a good reputation during the year, and the user must not have been convicted during the year of violations against Code of ethics and conduct, or Universal Code of Conduct.
2. All users can win it, regardless of their roles or positions.

Awards Supervisor

Each year, a person is chosen to oversee the awards and ensure that the criteria are met. The Supervisor must not be nominated for any of the awards this year, and the supervisor is usually the winner of the (Person of the Year) for the previous year.

She received 34% of the votes on 2025 Person of the year's vote.
Editor of the year		محمد أحمد عبد الفتاح	Most active editor in in the user group during 2025 , he created 242 articles in Arabic Wikipedia and more than 8K edits in main namespace. Also, the size of articles he contributed is notable, averaging 2KB per article.
Photographer of the Year		Mohamed shokry algarnosy	he won First and seventh place in the Wiki Loves Africa 2025 and the seventh and eleventh place in the Wiki Loves Earth 2025, he uploaded 5279 files to commons during 2025, He participated in all the photography activities organized by the user group and contributed a good number of photos.
Rising star of the year		فاطمه آل سيد	Most rising user in editorial activity during 2025, registered in Feb 2025 and created 33 articles in Arabic Wikipedia and more than 516 edits in main namespace. She contributed with a superb editorial level and showed a significant improvement in the use of editing tools.
