Egypt Wikimedians User Group/Events/Wikimania 2025

6-9 August 2025

Three members of the Egypt Wikimedians User Group — Ibrahim El-Aidy, Donia El-Domiaty, and Amr Fathy — participated in Wikimania 2025, held in Nairobi, Kenya, from August 6 to 9. Their attendance aimed to represent the Egyptian community and exchange expertise with other Wikimedia communities.
Ibrahim El-Aidy delivered two sessions:
- "What Are the Major Problems and Drawbacks of Arabic Wikipedia, and What Remedies Are Needed for the Future?" (in Arabic)
- "After the Implementation of Universal Code of Conduct and U4C, What Is Next?"
Both sessions addressed the challenges facing Arabic Wikipedia. They explored strategies to enhance the community environment following the adoption of the Universal Code of Conduct and the establishment of the U4C.
Donia El-Domiaty presented the session "Morning Briefing hosted by Wiki Africa Hour" and also participated in the "Decolonising Knowledge on Wikipedia" sessions related to GLAM topics.
Amr Fathy took part in the WikiChoir at the Wikimania 2025 closing ceremony.
The EWUG contributed to the Poster Hall by showcasing a poster highlighting its activities and projects. The Group also participated in the Culture Exchange Corner, introducing the culture of the Egyptian Wikimedia community through a variety of sweets, coins, stickers, souvenirs, and other items.
