Egypt Wikimedians User Group/Events/Wikimedia Egypt Conference: 13th Edition

Egypt Wikimedians User Group organized its 13th conference on February 5, 2026. It was held at the Egyptian Public Library in Dokki, Giza. The conference program featured presentations about the group and its achievements, as well as honoring the winners and judges of photography contests, and recognizing prominent members of the group. The conference concluded with a small celebration of Wikipedia's 25th anniversary.
The conference was originally scheduled for mid-December 2025, but was postponed to the new year due to logistical reasons.
Organizers

[edit]The conference program began at 10:15 a.m., following the gathering of participants, registration, and a guest reception. The event opened with a welcome address delivered by Ibrahim El-Aidy, marking the official start of the proceedings.
At 10:45 a.m., the first session commenced: an introductory talk presented by Ahmed Naji titled "An Introduction to Arabic Wikipedia: Features, History, and Achievements." The session concluded at 11:30 a.m.
After a short break, Walaa Abdel Moneim led an online editathon on "Administrative Coordination in Madrid," which continued until 12:30 p.m.
This was followed by a presentation from Amr Fathy highlighting the achievements of the Egypt Wikimedians User Group in 2025, lasting until 1:30 p.m., after which participants broke for lunch.
At 2:15 p.m., the recognition segment began. Winners and jury members of the photography contests were honored, along with outstanding group members and active contributors to the group’s activities. Among the highlighted initiatives was an editathon held as part of the celebration of Wikipedia’s 25th anniversary, focusing on old and modern palaces in Madrid. Besides, during the conference, 11 students created 23 articles about the urban design of streets and public squares in Madrid.
The conference also featured a celebratory Wikipedia birthday cake. The day’s events concluded at 4:00 p.m.

Wikipedian Editor Project
[edit]Three students were honored for their participation in activities run by the Wikipedian Editor Project, such as the Wiki Med I, Wiki Med II, and the Interlinguistic Intercultural Collaboration campaign.
They are Ahmed Gamal El-Saidi, Fatima ElSayed Mohamed Abdel-Rahman, and Menna Islam.
Wikipedian Light of Knowledge

Many students, especially those from the Spanish Department at the Faculty of Arts, Cairo University, participated in the group's activities through the "Wikipedian Light of Knowledge" initiative, under the supervision and guidance of Dr. Walaa Abdel Moneim. The most recent of these activities was an editathon about palaces in Madrid, and the students were honored before the editathon concluded on February 6th.
