Egypt Wikimedians User Group/GLAM/International Museum Day 2026

To celebrate International Museum Day 2026, which falls on May 18th each year, the Egypt Wikimedians User Group/GLAM Team organized several activities. These included a virtual seminar with museum specialists and archaeologists, the launch of an Editathon, and visits to the Museum of Islamic Art and the Museum of Egyptian National Library and Archives.

The Seminar

Sohila Elshaaer hosted a virtual seminar titled Spotlight on Egyptian Museums: Between Archaeological Vision and Digital Documentation with Dr. Mustafa Ibrahim, an archaeologist and researcher in Egyptology, museum studies, and Near Eastern studies, and Dr. Fatima El Refaie, a lecturer in museum studies and digital heritage. Team members Ahmed Naji and Amr F.Nagy also attended the two-hour seminar, along with other members such as Donia El Domiaty, Ibrahim El Aidi, Walaa Abdel Moneim, and others.

The Editathon

The GLAM Team launched an Editathon titled "Egyptian Museums" to create articles about museums that lack Wikipedia articles. The Editathon runs from May 18 to June 10.

Visiting Museums

Hassan Hamdy, a member of the GLAM Team, visited the Museum of Islamic Art and attended a celebratory seminar there regarding International Museum Day. The EWUG had visited this museum before in 2025, but this time the focus was on taking photographs of the artifacts (144 photos). Hassan then went to visit the Museum of the Egyptian National Library and Archives, a museum that does not have a Wikipedia article or images on Commons, and which will be covered in the Editathon of "Egyptian Museums".
