Our Members on Wikimania 2025 Hackathon

Each year, Egypt Wikimedians User Group's Tech Hub organizes an annual hackathon to bring together developers and programmers from Egypt in a unique technical gathering. like (Wikimedia Hackathon) which organized annually by WMF or other Hackathons that organized by Wikimedia affiliates in several countries around the world.

Egypt's Hackathon is an event where technical and non-technical contributors collaborate intensively on software projects focused on improving the technological infrastructure that powers free knowledge. Unlike standard coding competitions, our focus is on learning, collaboration, and creating tools that make editing and reading Wikimedia projects easier.

The User group organizes a number of small hackathons in some sessions, both in person and online. In 2025, the Tech Hub members agreed to organize annual hackathon but due to difficulties related to Hub members, the idea was postponed to 2027.

Objectives

• Empower Local Contributors: Equip Egyptian and regional volunteers with the skills to contribute to MediaWiki and open-source software.
• Solve Community Problems: Develop bots, user scripts, and gadgets specifically requested by the Arabic Wikimedia community.
• Improve RTL Support: Identify and fix Right-to-Left language display bugs in existing Wikimedia tools.
• Expand the Tech Hub: Grow the network of developers and technical volunteers within the Egypt Wikimedians User Group.
