Egypt Wikimedians User Group/Training

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

in Egypt Wikimedians User Group we have five training programs:

General programs

[edit]

1- New Users Training Program: (Massar Program)
a training program launched by the user group in 2026 with the aim of training newcomers outside of Wikimedia on volunteering, creating accounts, and contributing to Wikimedia projects. The word "Masar" (بالعربية: مسار) means "path," reflecting the program's core objective: to provide newcomers with a carefully designed, step-by-step approach to volunteering. This allows newcomers to find everything they need, from start to finish, and learn how to volunteer step-by-step, avoiding the common difficulties some newcomers face in learning about Wikimedia volunteering.

2- Train the Instructors Program (TOT): (Mentors Program)
This training program is designed for experienced users to become instructors for the group, participate in in-person and online sessions, assist volunteers, and answer their questions. The program aims to train a large number of "Mentors" to increase the number of activities and sessions and support the usergroup's expansion plan.

3- Training Program for Organizers: (Organizers Training Program)
an administrative and organizational training program, run by the group, designed to recruit and train volunteer organizers to handle organizational tasks such as: organizing Wikimedia's in-person and online sessions and events, and performing administrative duties within the group such as member registration, procurement, logistical support, event planning, report writing, and more. The program aims to help the group expand its activities locally by increasing the number of organizers and volunteers involved in organizational work. It also aims to develop existing organizers by equipping them with additional skills to enhance their effectiveness within the group.

4- Training Program for Developers and Technicians : (Technical training) a volunteer-led training program designed to strengthen the technical community behind Wikimedia projects. It provides structured learning opportunities for contributors interested in developing technical skills that support the Wikimedia ecosystem. The program covers a wide range of topics, including software and application development, Python programming, bots, scripts, tools, artificial intelligence, data querying and analytics, MediaWiki development, and free and open-source software. It serves both newcomers who want to begin contributing technically and experienced volunteers seeking to expand their skills and take on more advanced technical roles. By building technical capacity within the community, the program aims to empower more contributors to create, maintain, and improve the technologies that support Wikipedia and other Wikimedia projects.

5- Training Program for Organizers: (Photographers training)
program aims to train newcomers to be "Knowledge photographers" to contribute high-quality, freely licensed images to Wikimedia Commons, with a primary based on knowledge and culture. The training will introduce participants to the fundamentals of photography, emphasizing techniques for creating clear, informative, and well-documented images that support educational and knowledge-sharing purposes.
