The Masar program is a training program launched by the user group in 2026 with the aim of training newcomers outside of Wikimedia on volunteering, creating accounts, and contributing to Wikimedia projects. The word "Masar" (بالعربية: مسار) means "path," reflecting the program's core objective: to provide newcomers with a carefully designed, step-by-step approach to volunteering. This allows newcomers to find everything they need, from start to finish, and learn how to volunteer step-by-step, avoiding the common difficulties some newcomers face in learning about Wikimedia volunteering.

The program was developed and hosted on the user group's website and includes several training videos and AI-powered training methods. It also features a comprehensive database of frequently asked questions and pages explaining everything about Wikimedia projects. We expect that upon completion of the training program, participants will be registered members of Wikimedia projects and volunteers working on one of them.

This program also collaborates with other training programs of the user group to help specialized or skilled users volunteer in ways other than editorial contributions, such as users with technical expertise in programming and development to support Wikimedia technically, photographers who wish to contribute to the Commons project, or researchers who wish to upload books and free resources to Wikisource or Wikidata.

Program Objectives

• Attracting and encouraging volunteers from outside Wikimedia to contribute to projects (in collaboration with the WikiAwareness Project).
• Explaining everything about Wikimedia through interactive videos, moving away from traditional web pages and methods that newcomers often find challenging.
• Developing an automated learning program that explains the fundamentals step-by-step, and providing trainees with an AI-powered database to answer all their questions.
• After completing the basics, there will be regular online sessions to cover advanced editing techniques.
• Upon completion of the training program, trainees will be qualified to be active contributors to Wikimedia projects.
