Event:AWA Inclusion Project
Code for Africa (CfA), in partnership with the Norwegian Embassy of Foreign Affairs is offering stipend-based fellowships to Four (4) African Wikipedians under the African Wikipedian Alliance (AWA) 2026 Fellowships. .
These fellowships will support experienced Wikimedians in advancing gender equity, LGBTQ+ rights, and climate awareness by countering misinformation and improving the representation of these critical topics on Wikipedia. Fellows will play a key role in closing content gaps on Wikipedia and Wikidata while fostering partnerships with organizations dedicated to gender justice, LGBTQ+ advocacy, and democratic processes.
The focus regions for this fellowship include Southern Africa and neighboring countries, covering South Africa, Botswana, Lesotho, Eswatini, Namibia, Angola, Malawi, Mozambique, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Madagascar, and Mauritius .
Fellows will contribute to expanding and improving Wikimedia content related to gender representation, LGBTQ+ rights and xenophobic practices and the intersection of these themes with governance, policy, and human rights.
Fellowship Details

- Duration: 6 months
- Award amount: Each Fellow receives a stipend of USD 575, including reimbursement for contributors to carry out the deliverables as detailed in the Wikipedian in Residence Fellowship Particulars of this program.
- Additional support: Onboarding and technical training, Incentives for contributors, One-on-one mentorship and ongoing support from CfA's Team.
