Event:AWW Roundtable community meetup/OVERVIEW
The Africa Wiki Women Roundtable Community Meetups is a biannual community-led engagement session designed to foster reflection, dialogue, and shared learning among contributors, organizers, and affiliates connected to the African Wiki Women (AWW) initiative. This roundtable aims to create a safe and inclusive space for community members across the continent to share their experiences, assess the impact of AWW activities within their local Wikimedia communities, and provide constructive feedback to shape the future of the initiative.
Since its inception, the African Wiki Women initiative has worked to amplify African women’s voices on Wikimedia platforms, address systemic gender and knowledge gaps, and empower women contributors through capacity-building, leadership opportunities, and campaign support. As the initiative continues to grow, this roundtable meetup serves as a vital checkpoint for the community to evaluate its progress, identify areas for improvement, and co-create recommendations that reflect on-the-ground realities.
Objectives

- To understand how the African Wiki Women initiative has supported and impacted local Wikimedia communities, especially in terms of visibility, participation, and skills development.
- To gather insights on improvements or transformations within the community as a result of AWW projects, including increased gender equity, leadership development, or content growth.
- To solicit actionable recommendations from the community on how to further strengthen the African Wiki Women initiative for greater inclusivity, sustainability, and relevance.
This roundtable is part of a broader commitment to ensure that community voices are at the center of strategic planning and decision-making processes within the African Wiki Women ecosystem. Participants will include active Wikimedians, project leaders, organizers, and volunteers from across Africa who have engaged with AWW campaigns or supported its mission. Through this reflective session, the AWW team hopes to deepen its understanding of community needs, celebrate collective achievements, and co-develop a more community-informed roadmap for future programming.
