Why Should You Participate?

Africa is the second-largest continent on Earth but lacks sufficient content online in comparison to other continents on the globe.

In April 2024, African content comprised merely 2.69% of the total 4,815,057 articles on Wikipedia. Presently, African contributors constitute only 1.91% of the 185,723 active contributors across the platform.[1]

The objective of this campaign is to enhance the representation of Africa on Wikipedia by contributing more content.

Since 2021, the Africa Wiki Challenge initiative was launched to improve these statistics and reshape the online narrative. As organizers, we appreciate the ongoing efforts of editors and Wikipedians globally. Africa deserves comprehensive coverage to address the existing content gap on the web. The Africa Wiki Challenge (AWC) invites contributions on Africa from individuals in Africa and the diaspora. Join us, and let your contributions advocate for Africa!
