ARICA WIKI CHALLENGE IN BOTSWANA

Africa Wiki Challenge in Botswana

Theme for 2025:

[edit]

"Reclaiming Our Narrative: Justice for Africans and the Diaspora through Reparations"

[edit]

Welcome to the official hub for Africa Wiki Challenge 2025 in Botswana, hosted by WikiVerse Botswana. This year, we join a continental movement to rewrite history by elevating stories of resilience, resistance, and restitution from Botswana and the wider African continent.

This year’s campaign centers on truth-telling, restoration, and liberation. As part of a continental push, contributors will explore historical injustices, challenge dominant narratives, and document the stories that drive African resilience in Botswana and beyond.

Welcome to the official home of the Africa Wiki Challenge 2025 in Botswana, an initiative powered by WikiVerse Botswana to expand free knowledge through Setswana language contribution, heritage preservation, and community engagement.

About the Campaign

[edit]

The Africa Wiki Challenge 2025 calls upon contributors across Africa and the Diaspora to document, expand, and translate knowledge on reparations, justice, colonial legacies, and African agency. This initiative aligns with the African Union’s campaign for reparative justice and centers on amplifying underrepresented voices.

In Botswana, the challenge encourages participation through Setswana and English to preserve and promote cultural knowledge, community memory, and national heritage.

What the Theme Means for Botswana

  • Cultural Sovereignty: Document Botswana’s traditions, heritage sites, and indigenous knowledge systems.
  • Restorative Justice in Practice: Profile local initiatives that reflect reparative values—land reform, language revitalization, educational equity, and repatriation efforts.
  • Setswana Knowledge: Strengthen Wikipedia in Setswana and promote local-language contributions.
