Event:Africa Wiki Challenge 2025 in Nigeria/Home

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki
Official flier for AWC'25 in Nigeria

As part of the Africa Wiki Challenge being organized by the Open Foundation West Africa (OFWA), we plan to participate in various capacity-building sessions to enhance wikimedians' skills in creating and improving content related to African history, culture, development, struggles and experiences in Nigeria. Our focus will be on developing and localizing content in local languages such as Hausa, Igbo, Tyap and Yoruba to ensure that the information is culturally relevant and easily understood by diverse audiences.

Local community leaders from different Wikimedia communities in Nigeria, including Hausa, Igbo, Tyap and Yoruba will organize editing, translating, and writing activities to engage participants. These activities will include in-person and online training sessions, tailored to the specific needs of each community, to create high-quality content in Hausa, Igbo, Tyap and Yoruba Wikipedias.

The Africa Wiki Challenge provides an opportunity for us to showcase African narratives, promote justice and reparations, and amplify African voices. Through this initiative, we aim to significantly boost the representation of African content on Wikipedia and promote a more inclusive and diverse knowledge base. In the light of this, these communities representing the major ethnic groups in Nigeria would be organizing one in-person event each, and two online trainings each to build content and knowledge relating to colonialism, historical injustice, slavery, and systemic exploitation in Africa, and most importantly in Nigeria.
