About
[edit]In alignment with the African Union's 2025 theme, “Justice for Africans and People of African Descent Through Reparations”, the Africa Wiki Challenge (AWC) local event seeks to empower participants to contribute to the digital documentation of African narratives. This initiative aims to address historical injustices and promote equity by enriching Wikimedia platforms with content that reflects African perspectives.
Participants will engage in creating and enhancing articles on Wikipedia in Ghanaian languages such as Dagbani, Twi, Ewe, and Ghanaian Pidgin, as well as contribute to other Wikimedia sister projects. The focus will be on topics related to reparatory justice, cultural heritage, and the experiences of Africans and the diaspora.
Theme
[edit]In 2025, the Africa Wiki Challenge will focus on the theme "Reclaiming Our Narrative: Justice for Africans and the Diaspora through Reparation", aiming to address the historic injustices of colonialism, slavery, and systemic exploitation while advocating for reparations for Africa and its Diaspora. This year’s theme aligns with the African Union’s movement for justice and reparations and aims to amplify the voices of those impacted by historical and contemporary injustices.
The initiative seeks to enrich global understanding of reparations and elevate the voices of Africans and their descendants through the creation and enhancement of content on Wikipedia, focusing on the historical, social, and political realities that shape the reparations debate.
