Launch Event

The Africa Wiki Challenge 2026 will officially launch on Thursday, 28 May 2026 in a virtual format. The event will introduce the theme, “Water for Life in Africa,” which focuses on the importance of water in sustaining livelihoods, ecosystems, and development across the continent.

The launch will feature a keynote address and a panel discussion highlighting the importance of documenting Africa’s water systems, sanitation initiatives, and environmental changes through open knowledge platforms.

Participants will also learn how to contribute to the campaign, which runs from 28 May to 30 June 2026, by creating and improving content on Wikipedia, Wikimedia Commons, and Wikidata related to Africa’s water resources and sanitation systems.
