AfroCreatives WikiProject + film 2025 in Tanzania

AfroCreatives WikiProject+film (ACWP+film) is an annual campaign aimed at mobilizing Africans of the continent and the diaspora to enrich content about African film and television on Wikipedia and other Wikimedia projects. In 2025, ACWP+film’s anchor campaign, running during August and September, will be singularly focused on Wikipedia and aimed at boosting substantive and quality contributions on African Film and Television in English, French, Arabic, and African language Wikipedia. A key objective of the campaign is to improve existing articles in addition to creating new ones.

In Tanzania, the project aims to bridge the knowledge gap around the Tanzanian film industry on Swahili Wikipedia. Despite the rich history of film and storytelling in Tanzania, there is limited representation of local creatives, films, institutions, and festivals on Wikipedia. This lack of visibility hinders the global understanding of Tanzania’s cultural contributions and restricts opportunities for creatives to gain recognition beyond national borders.

How to Participate

Participating in the AfroCreatives Edit-a-thon in Tanzania is a meaningful way to contribute to the global knowledge base while highlighting Tanzanian and African cinema. Here’s how you can get involved:

1. Create a Wikipedia Account If you don’t have a Wikipedia account, you’ll need to create one. Visit Wikipedia's sign-up page.

2. Register for the Event To officially participate in the edit-a-thon, click on the Register for Event button on the promotional materials or shared link. This will take you to the registration form—please fill in your details accordingly.

3. Confirmation Email After registering, you will receive a confirmation email with next steps and useful resources.

4. Join the Event Dashboard You’ll be added to the Wikipedia Dashboard created specifically for the Tanzania edition of the AfroCreatives Edit-a-thon. This tool will help you track your contributions and collaborate with other participants across the country.

5. Contribute to Wikipedia You can edit and improve existing articles related to Tanzanian filmmakers and African cinema, or even create new ones that are missing on Wikipedia. Use the provided Article List to choose topics where you can make the most impact.
