2025 AfroCreatives WikiProject+film in Nigeria is a campaign aimed at enhancing African film and television content and visibility on Wikipedia in Nigeria.

The campaign is an initiative of the AfroCreatives WikiProject (ACWP), whose aim is to support and mobilize creatives, professionals, and experts from the African cultural and creative industries, as well as African cultural enthusiasts, to contribute and enhance knowledge on Wikipedia about Africa’s creative economy. In Nigeria, it is led by Wikimedia User Group Nigeria. This campaign runs from 2nd August to to 31st October 2025. and it is open to all. Participants will be actively contributing (references, edits, articles, images etc.) to Wikipedia.

AfroCreatives WikiProject+film 2025 in Nigeria will measurably enhance information on Wikipedia about the art and industry of Nigerian film, including:

  • The history of Nigerian cinema
  • Biographies of notable Nigerian creatives and professionals that span the industry
  • Notable Nigerian movies and television serie
  • Nigerian studios, streaming platforms, awards, festivals, guilds, film schools, and other institutions that form the industry ecosystem
  • Film financing, government policies, skills development, and other key industry issues

AfroCreatives WikiProject+film 2025 Edit-a-thon

In the lead-up to the campaign, participants, new and experienced Wikimedians alike, are strongly encouraged to sign up for an online or in-person Wikipedia workshop. The workshop will provide essential know-how on contributing to Wikipedia with a focus on Film and Television.

Why participate

  1. Your contributions will increase Nigerian-generated content about the continent’s film sector on Wikipedia and the web.
  2. You will help create awareness and interest among the general public about the project and create visibility of the Nigerian film on Wikipedia and its sister projects.
  3. You will help build the capacity within the film industry to contribute knowledge to Wikipedia and other Wikimedia projects.
  4. Help propagate the need to create more content about the film industry in Nigeria that promotes the culture, history, and heritage of our people.

Campaign Rules

All participants must create a Wikimedia account and be signed in before making any edits.

  • Sign up on the outreach dashboard here in case you're unable to register on the page.
  • All Wikipedia edits made must have #ACWPFILM25 and #ACWPFILMNG25 in the edit summary to be considered for any local or international prize (see further below).
  • The theme of the campaign is broadly on Nigerian film and TV, so feel free to contribute on any subject within that domain, regardless of the geography of the local Wikimedia community you are registered with.
  • All campaign contributions must be related to the theme of the campaign, Nigerian film and television. Edits outside this scope will not be considered part of the campaign nor count toward any prizes.

ACWP is particularly interested in mobilizing Contributors who bring a high level of knowledge, commitment, and interest in enhancing content and knowledge surrounding the African film sector. These include:

Film Industry Creatives and Professionals. African film critics, academics and researchers. African cultural and film enthusiasts, including those already contributing to Wikipedia.
