This event focuses on documenting and writing Wikipedia articles about Black artists and artists of color who have been historically underrepresented. Participants will engage in a hands-on Wikipedia editing workshop, learning how to contribute to public knowledge by adding or enhancing biographies of notable artists. The event will generally involve community engagement, promoting accurate and diverse representation on Wikipedia, and empowering participants to become active contributors to Wikimedia platforms such as Wikipedia and Wikidata.
Goals
[edit]- Increase representation of Black artists and artists of color on Wikipedia.
- Train participants in Wikipedia editing skills.
- Build a collaborative community committed to preserving and sharing Black cultural contributions.
- Increase discussion on the importance of diverse representation in digital archives.
- Educate participants on the Black Lunch tables activities
