Event:Ban Wiki! 17-11

Introduction

The Wikipedia on Aruba project host monthly Ban Wiki! where you can drop by to ask your questions about the project, meet other Wiki-minded people and start editing. The next edition will be held on 17 of November 2025, from 5.00 to 7.00 pm, at the National Library of Aruba, in Oranjestad.

In this edition, we’ll learn how to use the translation tool to turn existing articles from English or Dutch into Papiamento. You’ll get a simple, step-by-step walkthrough with core concepts, helpful tips, and built-in features to make the process easier and more fun. This is a beginner-friendly, basic-level training for people who are just getting started.

If you’d like to do some editing, bring a laptop or tablet, or use one of the available computers! Make sure to create your Wikipedia account before the event. If you’re not sure how to do this, you can learn by watching this video.

By participating, you help Papiamento grow stronger, share knowledge on Wikipedia, meet new people, and learn new skills. Feeling inspired? Start exploring Wikipedia for articles that haven’t been translated into Papiamento yet!

During the workshop, refreshments will be provided for all participants!

5:00 PM – 5:30 PM: Log into your account & activate the translation tool
5:30 PM – 6:30 PM: Tutorial Wikipedia translation tool (step by step instructions)
6:30 PM – 6:50 PM: Reflection & Q&A
