Ban Wiki Open House – Wikipedia on Aruba
[edit]The Ban Wiki Open House is an introductory event organized by Wikipedia on Aruba and (BNA) Arubiana-Caribiana, aimed especially at new editors who are interested in contributing to PAP-Wikipedia, the Papiamento-language edition of Wikipedia.
The primary purpose of this event is to welcome and prepare new contributors to take part in documenting culture on Wikipedia, with a focus on local artists. It offers a supportive and accessible environment where participants can learn the basics and gain the confidence to start editing.

What to expect
[edit]During the open house, participants will:
- Receive an introduction to how Wikipedia works
- Learn how to create a Wikipedia account
- Explore how to contribute to documenting Aruban artists
- Access digital resources, including collections from the Biblioteca Nacional Aruba (BNA – Arubiana/-Caribiana) and coleccion.aw
- Ask questions and receive guidance from experienced contributors
- Connect with others interested in knowledge sharing and cultural documentation
No prior experience is required, and no registration is needed. Participants can simply show up and join the session, ready to learn and meet new people.
Follow-up workshops
[edit]The open house also serves as the entry point for participation in the Ban Wiki workshops. Attendees will have the opportunity to register for the upcoming edit-a-thon sessions:
- 18 May, 17:00–19:00
- 22 June, 17:00–19:00
These follow-up sessions will focus on actively creating and improving articles related to Aruban artists, while also developing the technical skills needed to contribute effectively to Wikipedia, such as editing, sourcing, and formatting content.
