Event:Ban wiki!-Online
Ban Wiki - Online
[edit]The Wikipedia on Aruba project hosts monthly virtual Ban Wiki-Online! where you can drop in to ask your questions about the project, meet other Wiki-minded people and start editing!
Online workshops will be held via Google Meet. Each session runs from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM (Atlantic Time). Members of the Wikipedia on Aruba coordinating team will guide you live, step by step, as we explore how Wikipedia works and how you can actively contribute.
If you want to edit during the workshop, please create a Wikipedia account beforehand (see this article in Papiamento or in Dutch for a manual).
This event is especially geared toward individuals and teams working at Galleries, Libraries, Archives and Museums (GLAMs), organizations who are involved in digitizing collections and making cultural knowledge more accessible to the public.
However, the workshop is also open to anyone who wants to use or learn how to edit Wikipedia, regardless of background or experience.
Participants can ask questions and engage in Papiamento, Dutch, or English.
Upcoming dates
[edit]How it works – Explore Wikipedia
[edit]In this session, we will explore Wikipedia by reviewing existing articles, adding new information, and using tools like the Wikipedia translation tool.
We will also look at how to contribute content, upload images to Wikimedia Commons, and understand what types of content are suitable for these platforms. The session is flexible and will be shaped by the participants' questions, interests, and needs.
How it works: create an account
[edit]Before the workshop, please make sure you’ve created a Wikipedia account. It’s essential if you want to fully take part in the session. The video below explains how (in Papiamento)
It only takes a couple of minutes to create an account, and it’s completely free. You can also find instructions in this article Papiamento and Dutch).
Inspiration
[edit]Wikipedia is the world’s largest free encyclopedia, created and maintained by volunteers from all over the Wikimedia Commons is its sister project for storing free-to-use images and media.
In Aruba and the wider Caribbean, many institutions and individuals are working to preserve and share cultural heritage. Contributing to Wikimedia Commons and Wikipedia ensures that this knowledge is globally accessible, in multiple languages. This workshop supports GLAM professionals and the wider community in beginning that process.
You can find instruction videos in Papiamento for inspiration on the Wikipedia on Aruba YouTube page
