Introduction

[edit]

The Wikipedia on Aruba project host monthly Ban Wiki! were you can drop by to ask your questions about the project, meet other Wiki-minded people and start editing.

The next edition will be held on July 16, from 5.00 to 7.00 pm, at the Biblioteca Nacional Aruba. In this edition we will explore Wikipedia, as a knowledge-sharing platform and Wikidata as a hub for centralized data. Our focus this session will be on the topic of Flora & Fauna of Aruba. The workshop will be held in Papiamento and English.

If you want to do some editing, bring a laptop or your phone! You can also use the computers available in the study room of the library.

During the session, we will also have an open discussion where we work together to identify missing topics, gaps in information, and areas that could benefit from additional sources, references especially images.

By participating you help document Aruba’s natural wonders through openly accessible information & media, and expand the visual representation of Aruba on Wikimedia platforms, making content available to a global audience."

And there will be food & beverages :)!

How it works - Make an account on Wikipedia

[edit]

A Wikimedia account allows you to easily log in, have an overview of your edits and reach out to other people creating Wikipedia's content. You can use it for Wikipedia but also the other websites like Wikimedia Commons and Wikidata.

If you’re not sure how to create a Wikipedia account, don’t worry. You can find a verbal explanation in Papiamento on our YouTube channel, or use this step-by-step guide on our knowledge platform, in Papiamento to guide you through the process.
