Event:Ban wiki! 18-6
Introduction
[edit]The Wikipedia on Aruba project host monthly Ban Wiki! were you can drop by to ask your questions about the project, meet other Wiki-minded people and start editing!
This second edition will be held on June 18, from 5.00 to 7.00 pm, at the Biblioteca Nacional Aruba. In this edition, we will explore Wikipedia as a platform for translating and sharing knowledge across languages. Our focus this session will be on the topic of Emancipation in Aruba. The workshop will be held in English and Papiamento.

This workshop will be held in collaboration with Dr. drs. Luc Alofs, a cultural anthropologist and historian specializing in Aruban heritage, identity, and post-colonial studies. Dr. Alofs has published extensively on the social and cultural history of Aruba and the Dutch Caribbean, and brings a wealth of knowledge to the session.
If you want to edit, bring a laptop or your phone! You can also use the computers available in the study room of the library.
By participating, you will contribute freely licensed images to support open knowledge, help document Aruba’s cultural heritage through openly accessible media, and expand the visual representation of Aruba on Wikimedia platforms, making cultural content available to a global audience."
And there will be food & beverages :)!
How it works - Make an account on Wikipedia
[edit]To actively participate in this session, you will need to create a Wikipedia account. This will allow you to fully explore the platform and contribute directly to articles. During the session, we will also have an open discussion where we work together to identify missing topics, gaps in information, and areas that could benefit from additional sources or references, especially in relation to the theme of emancipation in Aruba.
If you’re not sure how to create a Wikipedia account, don’t worry. You can find a verbal explanation in Papiamento on our YouTube channel, or use this step-by-step guide on our knowledge platform, in Papiamento to guide you through the process.
Inspiration
[edit]This session is also an opportunity to get inspired by the powerful and ongoing story of emancipation a process that continues to shape societies, identities, and histories. By focusing on the Aruban context, we aim to deepen our understanding of its significance both locally and regionally.
We’ll also highlight the important work of Dr. drs. Luc Alofs, whose research on Aruban cultural heritage, colonial history, and identity formation offers valuable insights into the broader emancipation narrative. His contributions provide a strong foundation for meaningful discussion and reflection during the session.
