Introduction

The Wikipedia on Aruba project host monthly Ban Wiki! gatherings were you can drop by to ask your questions about the project, meet other Wiki-minded people and start editing!

The next edition will be held on Monday, February 23, 2026, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, at the Biblioteca Nacional Aruba, Oranjestad

In this Wikimedia Commons workshop, we will work together to create improved depictions of the collection of aerial photographs (luchtfoto’s) by Aad Stolwijk. During the session, we will focus on enhancing the collection by adding clear captions, structured data, and detailed metadata to each photo.

By improving the descriptions and data connected to these images, we make them easier to recognize, search, and reuse by people around the world. This workshop is ideal for anyone interested in cultural heritage, archival collections, and helping make valuable visual materials more accessible and discoverable on Wikimedia Commons.

Everyone is welcome. No prior experience with Wikimedia Commons is required, and guidance will be provided throughout the session.

If you want to edit, bring a laptop or your phone! You can also use the computers available in the study room of the library.

By participating, you will contribute freely licensed images to support open knowledge, help document Aruba’s cultural heritage through openly accessible media, and expand the visual representation of Aruba on Wikimedia platforms, making cultural content available to a global audience."

And there will be food & beverages :)!

5:55 PM	Improving Image Descriptions and Captions	Adding clear, accurate captions to better depict the photographs.
6:15 PM	Adding Structured Data and Metadata	Enhancing discoverability by adding structured data and relevant metadata.
6:40 PM	Collaborative Editing Session	Hands-on work improving the collection together.
7:00 PM	Event Ends	Closing remarks and next steps.

How to Prepare

To actively take part in this session, you'll need to create a Wikimedia Commons account. This will give you full access to upload photo's, explore Wikimedia platforms and contribute directly, helping make knowledge freely available to people around the world.
