Event:Chalks, Clicks and Memory
This event offers a reflective review of the Wiki-in-School Project carried out in 2025 at Rivers State University, Nigeria, by Heritage Conservation Integration (HCI) a Wiki GLAM–focused group dedicated to cultural documentation and digital heritage advocacy.
The pilot initiative was implemented in partnership with an architectural historian and educator from Rivers State University, with the aim of introducing students to Wikipedia editing, digital literacy, and the documentation of Nigerian architectural and cultural built heritage.
Through classroom workshops, research activities, and guided contributions to Wikimedia platforms, students engaged directly with open knowledge practices, learning how to responsibly document local building history, buildings, and cultural narratives for both local and global audiences.
This retrospective session will examine the project’s outcomes, challenges, and impact on students, educators, and trainers, while highlighting lessons learned and future opportunities for expanding Wiki-in-School and GLAM collaborations across Nigeria.
