Event:Digitalise Youth Project
Code for Africa, the European Partnership for Democracy (EPD), AfricTivistes, CFI Media Development, the World Scout Bureau Africa Regional Office, and the Kofi Annan Foundation (KAF), with contributions from the Netherlands Institute for Multiparty Democracy (NIMD), is offering stipend-based fellowships to Five (5) African Wikipedians under the African Wikipedian Alliance (AWA) 2026 Fellowships.
These fellowships will support experienced Wikimedians in amplifying youth voices and enhancing civic engagement in a secure digital space by creating and improving content on Wikipedia and Wikidata. The focus regions include the Sahel region, neighbouring West Africa, and the Horn of Africa.
Fellows will contribute to bridging content gaps on topics such as the African Union Convention on Cybersecurity and Personal Data Protection, e-democracy, digital mobilisation in social movements, SDG16, freedom of expression, and human rights. Additionally, the initiative will highlight the roles of governments, NGOs, and grassroots organisations in addressing censorship, surveillance, and online disinformation in Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Chad, Ethiopia, Guinea, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Senegal, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, and Togo.
These part-time AWA fellowships are part of CfA’s broader initiative to strengthen information integrity by empowering youth to promote a secure digital space on Wikimedia. Fellows will act as change-makers in their communities by organising events, facilitating technical training, and building partnerships with organisations dedicated to this cause.
