Project Overview

The project Embracing Openness in African Libraries through Open Licensing Digitization in Nigeria, Kenya, and Ghana is a training program for librarians in Nigeria, Kenya, and Ghana run in partnership with libraries and library associations that seeks to equip participants with digitization, metadata curation, and Wikisource documentation skills, alongside up‑to‑date guidance on copyright law, public‑domain principles, and Creative Commons licensing to preserve and share local cultural heritage via open platforms like Wikicommons, and Wikisource.

PROJECT GOAL

To train atleast 45 librarians in the focus countries on the identified areas of the project overview, digitize and curate at least 20 unique collections per country and publish public‑domain materials on Wikimedia Commons and Wikisource in support of the global TAROC process, whilst certify librarians as open‑access advocates with the skills and confidence to sustain and promote open cultural heritage initiatives.
