About the Event

GLAM IIT Delhi, in collaboration with GLAM India User Group & Central library, IIT Delhi, is organizing a campus-focused photography contest to document the academic, architectural, and cultural landscape of the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi. The initiative aims to capture high-quality, freely licensed photographs of the IIT Delhi campus.

Objectives

  • To encourage contributors to document IIT Delhi through photography
  • To cover diverse aspects of the campus, including departments, landmarks, and everyday academic life

Activities

  • On-campus photography session covering multiple departments and locations
  • Uploading photographs to Wikimedia Commons under a free license
  • Review and evaluation of submissions by the organizing team
  • Announcement of the top three photographs as winners

Special Instructions

  • Platform: Wikimedia Commons
  • Upload window: 2 February 2026 to 17 February 2026, 11:59 PM IST
  • Judging: Based on composition, relevance, essence of IITD, and overall image quality. The pictures will be evaluated by Dr. Nabi Hasan, Librarian & Head, and Dr. Mohit Garg, Assistant Librarian (SS), Central Library, IIT Delhi.

A pre-event orientation will be provided to demonstrate the process of uploading the images to Commons.

How to upload?

Please use this link to upload your pictures. You will need to create a Wikimedia account. Creating an account is fast and easy, and hardly requires a minute. You are encouraged to upload as many images as you can, there is no limit!

How to receive your participation certificate?

Make sure to register for the event at the top of this page, or click here. Make sure your Wikimedia account has an email added to it (fill in your email while creating your account, or add it from here). To be eligible for a certificate, you must have uploaded at least 1 image. After the event is concluded, you will receive your participation certificate via the same email.

Guidelines

While photographing the IIT Delhi campus, participants should be mindful of Wikimedia Commons policies and Indian Freedom of Panorama provisions.

You are free to photograph buildings, outdoor structures, landscapes, and public art that are permanently located in open public spaces on campus. However, please avoid uploading the following types of images:

  • Photographs solely of identifiable individuals without their consent
  • Images taken inside restricted or private areas (residential quarters)
  • Security installations, entry/exit control points, CCTV systems, or sensitive infrastructure
  • Copyrighted artworks, posters, notices, or displays that are not permanently installed in public spaces
  • Any material containing personal or confidential information
  • Images that violate privacy, institutional policy, or safety norms

Ensure that your photographs are taken in publicly accessible outdoor areas and respect both privacy and copyright considerations.
