[edit]

As the Wikimedia Foundation kicks off our annual planning each year, we develop a list of trends that we believe are likely to significantly impact the context in which the Wikimedia movement and projects operate. We identify specific online trends that are most relevant to our mission, and look at how the current technological, geopolitical, and social environment are requiring us to adapt and evolve. We then have ongoing conversations to ask the tough questions together and begin to converge on possible solutions.

This call will in particular explore the topics of:

  • What neutrality means for Wikipedia in today’s world
  • AI, bots, and the changing ways we produce and consume information
  • The declining number of users with extended rights on Wikimedia projects

Call format

[edit]

The call will take place on Zoom and will have live interpretation into Spanish and Portuguese.

It will begin with a short welcome and introduction, followed by a quick product demo to showcase some recent work connected to the trend. We will then divide ourselves into smaller groups covering the above topics. All participants are free to join any of the discussions, and move between them as desired.

Because we want to foster a collaborative environment for people to safely explore ideas and openly discuss concerns, the breakout discussions will not be recorded. However, each discussion will have a notetaker to document and synthesize the discussion.
