Event:KnowTech 3.0 Wikimedia World

On 17 November 2025, I delivered a 45-minute session on the Wikimedia ecosystem as part of KnowTech 3.0, an annual knowledge-and-technology event hosted at Hampton International School, Dubai. The session was inaugurated by Sharif Karasseri.Muneer Al wafa, Zuhair Elambillassery, Dr. Alavikuthu panthakkan were also delivered different sessions.

Session Highlights

- Highlighted the relevance of Wikimedia in the age of Artificial Intelligence and Large Language Models, emphasizing how open, verifiable datasets support responsible AI development.
- Introduced the audience to various Wikimedia projects, including:
- Wikipedia
- Wikidata
- Wikimedia Commons
- Wikisource
- MediaWiki (the software behind Wikimedia platforms)
Community and Participation
[edit]- Shared an overview of Wikimedia user groups, affiliates, and community structures, explaining how volunteers can get involved.
- Explained the benefits of contributing to Wikimedia projects—both tangible (skill development, networking, global visibility) and intangible (knowledge equity, community service, cultural documentation).
The session aimed to inspire students and youth to become active contributors to open knowledge and to explore Wikimedia as a space for learning, collaboration, and digital empowerment.
