Naija Publish: Building the Nigerian Publishing Index on Wikidata
[edit]Publishers and Publishing Companies play a very vital role to the growth and advancement of literary works in Nigeria and the world at large, although in most cases they are neglected. This project seeks to put an end to this sidelining by putting up information about these companies for the masses to see and use. We will be making use of Wikidata, one of the Wikimedia Foundation projects for this purpose.

Expectations
[edit]At the end of this project the following expectations should be met:
- Participants will own a global Wikimedia user account to assist in contributing to open knowledge.
- New contributors will learn how to create an item on Wikidata and also improve items on this project.
- At least 200 Wikidata items will be created and improved.
Outcome
[edit]This project brought about the following positive outcomes;
- Enriching the Publishing Index on Wikidata: Through the contributions of these volunteers, a total of 215 new items about publishing companies were created and 2009 valuable edits were made on Wikidata.
- Fostering community growth : This Project have increased our community by bringing in new young learners and volunteers, with a total number of 8 registered participants on the dashboard.
- Improved Volunteer retention: Participants who are part of the newly growing community in this part of Nigeria were taught a new Wikimedia project and were carried along.
