About the event

As Wikimedians, we’re part of a global movement that collaborates to share the world’s knowledge.

We know that some topic areas can be fraught with more conflict than others.

So what do you do when things go wrong, when you disagree, or when you’re targeted for the kind of edits that you’re making? And how can we design work so as to avoid that kind of conflict in the first place?

As we work collectively on pursuing Knowledge Equity, and improving on-wiki coverage of groups and subjects currently underrepresented in the Wikimedia projects, we may well encounter challenges unique to those subject areas. Established editors as well as those new to Wikimedia may feel vulnerable or exposed, or have other negative experiences which leave them discouraged from continuing their involvement with the movement.

This event is intended to draw together advice and best practice both for editors and those supporting editors who work in on-wiki areas which might be considered more challenging.

Following the event, we intend to put together a shareable resource (e-booklet) which will include key takeaways from our speakers’ presentations, including resources, tips, and best practice.

The event will feature short presentations from three speakers, followed by a panel with all speakers. After a break, we’ll split into workshop rooms to pool ideas for other strategies in supporting users who are editing in challenging spaces. Ideas from this workshop session will be anonymised and used in the e-booklet which will be published after the event.

The event will not be recorded.
