Event:R@/Bibliothécaire III

The R@/Bibliothécaires project is an initiative designed to bring Benin's documentation and archive professionals closer to free collaborative platforms, in particular those of the Wikimedia ecosystem. By focusing on training and coaching librarians and archivists, the project gives them the means to become relays capable of involving the young people who frequent their centers. They will be able to introduce them to the world of free software and organize interactive activities with them around the various Wikimedia projects.
For this edition, the project aims to train documentation and archive professionals to support young people in the creation of free content, such as audio recordings in local languages and photographs of cultural events. These contributions will be used to promote Benin's languages and heritage on the Internet through Lingua Libre, Wikimedia Commons, Wikidata and Wikipedia.
Deployment of Project R@/Librarians III
[edit]- 17 January to 17 March 2026
The list of main activities is as follows
[edit]As in previous editions, we'll be working with past participants and a few new ones. Activities will kick off in January with two outings to Ouidah, host of the Vodoun Day festival, in the company of documentation and archive professionals. The aim of these outings will be to capture, in images and videos, highlights of Beninese culture. The idea is to show them how to showcase local culture as they travel around the country, documenting communes, villages or folklore events to enrich Wikipedia pages.
After these trips to Ouidah and the collection of photos and videos, a day of activity will be devoted to uploading these multimedia files. In addition, three days (or more) will be dedicated to learning the Lingua Libre tool. These sessions will enable users to record the correct pronunciation, with local accent, of the names of towns, villages or personalities with indigenous names, in order to enrich their pages on Wikipedia and Wikidata with reliable audio content.
