Event:Salim Ali Memorial Lecture 2025 and Wikimedia Workshop
The 129th Birth Anniversary of Dr. Sálim Ali was celebrated in Thrissur on November 22, 2025, featuring a memorial lecture and a specialized Wikimedia workshop. The Sálim Ali Memorial Lecture was delivered by Prof. Rajan Gurukkal, Vice Chairman of the Kerala State Higher Education Council and former Vice Chancellor of M. G. University, Kottayam. The lecture's topic was Ecological Sustainability in Knowledge Economy: Consequences of Commercialisation, held from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Following the lecture, a Wikimedia Workshop on Wiki Loves Birds was conducted from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., focusing on "Bird Articles in Wikipedia: Learn to Contribute & Document India's Avian Diversity." This session was led by Irvin Sabastian (Administrator, Malayalam Wikipedia) and Manoj Karingamadathil (Citizen Scientist, Sáhya Digital Conservation Foundation), and organised by the Sálim Ali Foundation, Wikimedians of Kerala, Sahya Digital Conservation Foundation to promote the documentation of India's bird diversity on Wikipedia. The event was held at the Achuthamenon centre, Costford, Ayyanthol, Thrissur. This Event is as part of Wiki Loves Bird India 2025 Campaign, supported by the Wikimedia Foundation.
