Report
[edit]On 22 April 2026, a hybrid workshop and edit-a-thon was organised at the Embassy of Ukraine in the Republic of India as part of Ukraine’s Cultural Diplomacy Month 2026, in collaboration with Indian Wikimedia communities.
The event brought together Wikimedia contributors from across India through both in-person and online participation, focusing on improving content related to Ukraine in Indic languages across Wikipedia and Wikidata. Participants contributed to articles related to Ukrainian culture, history, people and contemporary topics while promoting cross-cultural collaboration and open knowledge exchange between Ukraine and India.
The Ambassador of Ukraine to India, Dr. Oleksandr Polishchuk, addressed the participants and highlighted the importance of expanding reliable information about Ukraine in Indic languages. Representatives from Wikimedia Ukraine also joined online and shared the broader goals of the international campaign. He emphasized that every contribution to truthful and accessible knowledge about Ukraine is highly appreciated, as it helps audiences around the world better understand Ukraine and becomes part of Ukraine’s cultural resilience.[1]
During the event, Olesia Lukaniuk from Wikimedia Ukraine joined online and presented the objectives, structure, and international significance of Ukraine’s Cultural Diplomacy Month 2026.
The programme also included a cultural session featuring a traditional Ukrainian Motanka doll workshop conducted Third Secretary of the Embassy Tetiana Sharma, offering participants an opportunity to engage with Ukrainian cultural heritage.
During the campaign period in India, 47 editors participated, creating 71 new pages and improving around 327 pages across Wikimedia projects. The participants made more than 1K edits, contributing approximately 1.7 million bytes of content.
