Peer learning reflections from the Volunteer Supporters Network – Motivating volunteers
7 November 2025 The VSN‘s peer-to-peer learning sessions are a closed space for VSN members & liaisons to share experiences and learning around different elements of volunteer support within the movement. These meetings are not recorded, in order that attendees may feel more comfortable in sharing experiences amongst their peers, but we may share aggregated / anonymised reflections after the event where appropriate. These peer-to-peer meetings are paired with a Skillshare session on the same or a related topic, and these Skillshare sessions are open to all. We aim as part of this programme to share resources and learning with the wider movement.
Be Part of the VSN Advisory Group – Call for Members Now Open!
9 October 2025 We are happy to announce that the Volunteer Supporters Network (VSN) has opened a call for members to join its Advisory Group, which forms part of the governance structure of the VSN Hub Pilot. Since June 2025, the VSN has been running a Hub Pilot, funded through the Wikimedia Foundation Hubs Fund and continuing until December 2026. Co-led by Wikimedia Argentina and Wikimedia UK, and supported by colleagues with deep experience in volunteer support roles, the Hub builds on years of shared practice and collaboration within the Wikimedia movement.
Volunteer Supporters Network: Empowering Communities at Wikimania Nairobi
6 October 2025 In August, the VSN proudly participated in Wikimania Nairobi, Kenya, taking the opportunity to connect with its members and liaisons from the Wikimedia movement from different parts of the world. The VSN, led by Wikimedia Argentina and Wikimedia United Kingdom, participated in a panel about The future of Hubs in the Wikimedia context, led by the CEE Hub, highlighting the importance of community spaces for collaboration and growth. There, we discussed opportunities, challenges, and learnings from different hubs of the Wikimedia movement, such as the CEE Hub, the ESEAP Hub, and the VSN Hub.
Are you working on building global cooperation? Here are seven things you can learn from the Volunteer Supporters Network!
8 February 2023 It was during Wikimania in London in 2014, when Wikimedians working in community support decided that they would like to cooperate closer, in a more organized way. This is how the VSN came to life. For the last 8 years it has been connecting Wikimedians from different parts of the wikiverse, whose activities are centered around supporting communities and volunteers. It supported communication around the topic, organized training and workshops, created and shared resources.
