Event:WMA End of Year Hack Challenge 2025

This end-of-year hack challenge brings together WMA teams, mentors, and new contributors to improve WMA-supported tools. Participants work in balanced teams on tasks listed on Phabricator across coding, design, documentation, and translation.

• Challenge Launch: 12 December
• Active Contribution Period: 12-19 December
• Showcase & Awards: 20 December

Goals

• Improve WMA-supported tools through focused, team-based contributions
• Provide hands-on mentorship and learning opportunities
• Produce meaningful fixes, features, and documentation
• Bring newcomers into existing WMA teams in a structured way

How the Challenge Works

1. Participants register through this event page.
2. Participants fill out the skills form so we can create balanced teams.
3. Each team is assigned a mentor and a set of Phabricator tasks.
4. Tasks earn points based on difficulty.
5. Mentors validate completed work directly on Phabricator.

Task Categories

Each task will be tagged with:

1. Domain: Coding / Design (UI/UX) / Documentation / Translation
2. Difficulty: Beginner / Intermediate / Difficult

All tasks must be approved by the attached mentor and must be on Phabricator.

Scoring System

• Beginner task → 1 point
• Intermediate task → 3 points
• Difficult task → 5 points

A task only counts once the mentor confirms it (merged or validated).

Awards

The following categories will be recognized during the showcase:

• Top Team Contribution
• Highest-Impact Code Contributor
• Best Documentation or Translation Contribution
• Best Design/UI/UX Contribution
• Top Mentor Contributor

Over $3,000 in prizes will be awarded across these categories.

2. Complete the skill and team-formation form to help us build balanced teams.
