Contest: Wikidata & Wikipedia Improvement Challenge
[edit]Join the Global Open Initiative Foundation from June to July to improve content on Wikipedia and Wikidata Wikidata & Wikipedia Improvement Challenge – a dual-platform editing contest focused on improving and creating content related to Libraries, Public Universities, Polytechnics, and Ethnic Groups in Ghana Improve Ghanaian Stubs and improve Wikidata items.

🔍 Focus: Libraries, Educational Institutions, Ethnic Groups & Places in Ghana
Contest Duration
[edit]June 16th to July 16th, 2025
Contest Scope: Participants will contribute to both Wikidata and Wikipedia by:
Wikidata: Creating or improving items related to Libraries in Ghana.
Adding coordinate locations and expanding statements for key infrastructure, educational institutions, and organizations.
Linking corresponding Wikipedia articles to Wikidata items.
Improving and adding data about Public Universities and Polytechnics in Ghana.
Wikipedia: Creating new articles on Libraries that don't yet exist.
Fixing issues on existing articles related to ethnic groups in Ghana (e.g., Guang people), such as:
Adding citations
Adding/repairing infoboxes
Structuring content
Placing the subject accurately on maps of Ghana
Adding relevant images (especially from Wikimedia Commons)
Using updated constituency maps on Ghana-related constituency articles.
Adding images of notable places like Agbogbloshie market, landmarks, or institutions to improve visual context.
How to Participate
[edit]- Register via the Event Page on Meta. Click Register.
- Start editing articles and items that fall under the contest scope on both Wikidata and Wikipedia. Link to Items sheet ()

- All contributions must adhere to Wikimedia’s content policies and guidelines.
Rules
[edit]- Edits must be made within the contest period.
- Only original contributions are eligible (no plagiarism).
- Quality is key: Edits should be well-sourced, accurate, and enhance the reader’s or user’s understanding.
- For Wikidata: Ensure items have appropriate labels, descriptions, statements, and references.
- For Wikipedia: Articles must meet notability, verifiability, and neutrality standards.
- Contributions must relate to the defined topics (Libraries, Educational Institutions, Ethnic Groups, Ghana Constituencies/Places).
- Judges reserve the right to disqualify poor or policy-violating edits.
