The WikiForHumanRights 2025 in Nigeria: Wikipedia Training is part of the national campaign advancing the theme “Our Right, Our Future, Right Now.”

This training aims to build participants’ capacity to contribute effectively to Wikipedia and related Wikimedia projects, focusing on topics connected to environmental human rights, sustainable development, and access to knowledge.

The event aligns with the global WikiForHumanRights 2025 Campaign, which highlights the intersection between human rights, environmental protection, and open knowledge.

Objectives

To equip participants with the skills needed to create and improve Wikipedia articles related to human rights and environmental issues in Nigeria.

To promote local knowledge sharing and encourage the inclusion of Nigerian perspectives on the global platform.

To strengthen collaboration among Wikimedia communities in Nigeria.

To support the global effort to document the Right to a Clean, Healthy, and Sustainable Environment on Wikimedia platforms.

Facilitator

Muib Shefiu – An experienced Wikimedia trainer and community leader who will guide participants through the core aspects of Wikipedia editing, article creation, referencing, and campaign-related content improvement.

Moderator

Atilba – Responsible for coordinating sessions, managing participant engagement, and ensuring smooth facilitation throughout the training.

Adetoro Praise – Co-moderator assisting with technical support, participant questions, and the overall flow of discussions.

Training Focus Areas

Introduction to the WikiForHumanRights Campaign and its global objectives.

Wikipedia editing basics (creating, improving, and citing articles).

Understanding notability, neutrality, and reliable sources.

How to identify and bridge content gaps related to environmental rights in Nigeria.

Practical sessions on editing live Wikipedia articles.

Overview of other Wikimedia projects (Wikidata, Commons, and Wikisource) relevant to the campaign.

Expected Outcomes

By the end of the training, participants will:

Understand the fundamentals of Wikipedia editing and contribution ethics.

Be able to identify and address content gaps related to human rights and environmental issues.

Join the growing network of contributors supporting the WikiForHumanRights 2025 in Nigeria campaign.

Improve the visibility of Nigerian-related environmental rights topics on Wikipedia.
