About the Session

[edit]

As part of Wiki Loves Africa 2026, this training session introduces participants to the art of the photo essay — using images to tell compelling visual stories that document Africa’s rich cultural heritage under this year’s theme, Rites and Rituals.”

Photo essays go beyond single images. They combine carefully selected photographs, structured storytelling, and contextual captions to communicate deeper meaning. This session will equip participants with the skills to document ceremonies, traditions, festivals, spiritual gatherings, and cultural practices in a way that aligns with Wikimedia standards.

This training empowers contributors to go beyond documentation — to tell meaningful African stories visually.
